Jon Wurster, drummer and creative artist, has built a long career in alternative and indie rock, known for his dynamic playing and wide range of collaborations. Born October 31, 1966, in Sellersville, Pennsylvania, he began playing drums at a young age and became a fixture in the punk and indie scenes in the 1980s.

Wurster joined the band Superchunk in 1991 and contributed his energetic, driving style to albums including No Pocky for Kitty, Foolish, and Wild Loneliness. In 2023 he stepped away from full-time touring with Superchunk while remaining available for special appearances.

He has also been the drummer for The Mountain Goats since the late 2000s, performing on recordings and tours and adapting his style to the band’s evolving sound. In 2025, he is featured on The Mountain Goats’ upcoming album Through This Fire Across From Peter Balkan and participated in their East Coast tour with Guster.

Wurster is a long-term member of Bob Mould’s band, contributing to the 2025 album Here We Go Crazy and its supporting U.S. tour. He has performed and recorded with a wide range of other artists including Aimee Mann, The New Pornographers, Alejandro Escovedo, and Ben Gibbard. Wurster is also known for his comedic collaborations with Tom Scharpling on The Best Show, a long-running radio program and podcast.
