Brooks Wackerman

Brooks Wackerman comes from true “drum family” roots — and you can hear that lifelong foundation in the way he plays: powerful, controlled, and musical, with the kind of time and touch that works in punk, metal, and anything in between. He’s best known today as the driving force behind Avenged Sevenfold, but his story runs much deeper than one band.

Wackerman was born in Long Beach, California and was raised in a household where drums were part of daily life. His father, Chuck Wackerman, was a respected drummer and longtime music educator, and Brooks grew up surrounded by working musicians. His older brothers are major players too: Chad Wackerman became world known through Frank Zappa and high-level fusion/rock sessions, while John Wackerman built a wide career in touring and studio work. That family environment shaped Brooks early — strong fundamentals, discipline, and a “serve the music” mindset — which later made him a perfect fit for big professional situations.

After early work in Bad4Good as a teen, Brooks became widely recognized through his long run with Bad Religion (2001–2015), then joined Avenged Sevenfold in 2015, bringing a precise but aggressive feel that helped push their modern era. His drumming is featured on major A7X releases including The Stage and Life Is But a Dream…, and his playing has become a key part of the band’s live sound.

Recent activity: Avenged Sevenfold announced major 2026 touring, including a North American run with Good Charlotte, continuing their current era on the road.
