For many years, Barry Alexander II sat and watched his father play drums in church, but he wasn’t interested in playing until he joined the Minnesota Vikings Drum Corps in 2000. Barry currently plays with guitarist and singer Jonny Lang as a member of the Jonny Lang Band.

Barry reflects, “I started watching and sitting in front and behind my dad coming up in my family’s church (UDT). He was the first person I ever saw play drums. His pocket, his groove, and his power were always something to look forward to every Sunday afternoon. I knew I wanted to do the same thing, but I was trying other things as well.”

After his 13-month stint with the Drum Corps, Barry began networking at nightclubs and other venues in his area. He grew into a confident percussionist, playing with artists like Anthony Gomes, Alexander O’Neal, and The New Congress. Barry adds, “Fast forward, I have been playing with Jonny Lang for the past 13+ years. It’s the best situation I’ve ever been in musically. Every gig I’ve played in my life, Zildjian has always been with me and my drums. That’s why, after all these years, I am still blessed and lucky to be a part of this family for so long. Thank you, Zildjian.”

Together, Lang, Alexander, and the rest of the band have achieved platinum and gold certifications, a Grammy nomination, sold-out concerts, and tours with the Rolling Stones, among other accomplishments.
