Kofi Baker is the son of drummer Ginger Baker. He first played drums in public at age six with his father on the UK TV show “The Old Grey Whistle Test.” In the early 1980s, Kofi and his father performed drum duets across Europe, showcasing complex African rhythms. Later, Kofi toured with musicians like John Ethridge of Soft Machine, Steve Waller of Manfred Mann, and Randy California of Spirit. He also toured Europe with Steve Marriott’s band, Humble Pie.
In the 1990s, Kofi played with Jack Bruce in Budapest, signed with Scotty Brothers Records to record the album “Lost City,” and collaborated with Jonas Hellborg and Shawn Lane on “Abstract Logic.” He also toured extensively, including more drum duets with his father. In 1994, Kofi moved to the United States and lived with his father in Colorado. Footage from this time appears in the documentary “Beware of Mr. Baker.”In 2015, Kofi joined The Extreme Guitar Tour with Uli Jon Roth, former Scorpions lead guitarist, along with Vinny Appice and Vinnie Moore. After attending the Cream reunion concerts at Madison Square Garden, he developed his “Cream Experience” band.
After moving to Los Angeles, Kofi continued performing and established a drum school. Students and clinic attendees appreciate his approachable teaching style and passion for drumming. In 2017, Kofi became part of The Music Of Cream 50th Anniversary Tour. After this project ended in 2022, he focused on “Sons of Cream,” a collaboration with Malcolm Bruce, son of Jack Bruce, celebrating their father’s musical legacy.
