David Garibaldi

2135

David Garibaldi is a funk and R&B drummer known for his linear grooves, precise pocket, and rhythmic creativity. He developed his style early in his career, combining complex syncopation with deep groove sensibilities that have influenced generations of drummers.

Garibaldi joined Tower of Power in 1970, helping define the band’s signature sound on classic recordings and songs. His playing on tracks like What Is Hip?, Oakland Stroke, and Soul Vaccination became essential examples of funk drumming.

Beyond Tower of Power, Garibaldi has performed and recorded with artists across R&B, soul, and jazz, while also building a reputation as an educator through instructional books, lesson videos, workshops, and clinics that teach his groove concepts and techniques.

In January 2024, Garibaldi stepped away from touring with Tower of Power due to the demands of roadwork, focusing instead on private teaching, studio recording, writing, and select performances. He continues to engage with the drumming community and contribute to rhythm education.
