Derico Watson, a vibrant drummer from Muskegon, Michigan, began his rhythmic journey at just five years old, tapping away on makeshift drums at his grandmother’s church. Inspired by her records and told he had a “natural gift from God,” he quickly honed his craft in the music program at Muskegon High School.
An accomplished educator and clinician, Derico has shared the stage with a stellar lineup of artists, including Victor Wooten, George Duke, and Marvin Sapp, showcasing his versatile style in genres ranging from jazz to gospel. He’s toured with the likes of The Dynamites and SMV (Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller, and Victor Wooten), and has left his mark performing alongside legends like James Brown and Earth, Wind and Fire.
Derico is not just a performer; he’s also a sought-after clinician, sharing his expertise at prestigious events like the Montreal Drum Fest and PASIC. Currently, he records and tours with the renowned Victor Wooten, all while calling Nashville home. There, he teaches and continues to create music, proudly endorsing Mapex Drums, Sabian Cymbals, Vic Firth Drumsticks, and Aquarian Drumheads. His journey is a testament to his passion for rhythm and the transformative power of music.
