Hannah Welton is a talented drummer known for her dynamic background in rock and jazz, serving as the rhythmic backbone of PRINCE’s band, 3RDEYEGIRL. Born in Louisville, Kentucky, she moved to Chicago at age 12, where she began her musical journey, performing with her father and winning the Louis Bellson Heritage Days Drums Competition in 2006. Welton has played with various bands, including The Hannah Ford Band and Bellevue Suite, and has received multiple accolades for her musicianship.
She studied under renowned drummers and was deeply influenced by classic rock, particularly John Bonham of Led Zeppelin. Her career took a significant turn when PRINCE discovered her via YouTube and invited her to jam at Paisley Park Studios, leading to her joining his New Power Generation band in 2012. Shortly after, she helped form 3RDEYEGIRL, collaborating with guitarist Donna Grantis and bassist Ida Nielsen.
Welton has performed on national television and contributed to the band’s debut album, “Plectrum Electrum.” She describes the experience of working with PRINCE and her bandmates as transformative, emphasizing their shared commitment to creating exceptional music.
