Jim Toscano

Jim Toscano is a New York–based drummer, educator, author, and clinician with decades of experience in performance and music instruction. He has been a professional drummer since the early 1980s, working as a freelancer in live and studio settings.

As an educator, Toscano teaches private and group drum lessons to students worldwide, primarily through online instruction. His teaching focuses on groove development, independence, improvisation, fills, rudiments, and technical coordination of hands and feet. His approach is practical and structured, serving both developing players and experienced drummers, refining specific skills.

Jim Toscano’s work as an educator and clinician has connected him with professional drummers and educators worldwide, and his students have included established players such as Stanton Moore, Dan Traglia, and Dave Weckl.

He provides coaching on the use of technology for teaching, including audio and video setup, multi-camera streaming, lighting, online lesson workflow, and studio management. This work has made him a resource for teachers adapting to modern, remote-based instruction.

Toscano is the author of Filling In The Grooves: The Ultimate Guide To Drum Fills, an instructional book focused on the construction, placement, and musical use of fills within grooves.

He operates Jim Toscano Drum Studios LLC and maintains an active professional presence centered on education, performance, and teacher development within the drumming community.
