Joey Peebles

2137

Joey Peebles brings New Orleans fire to everything he plays — deep pocket, heavy groove, and the kind of feel that can shift from funk to rock to second-line without losing the center. Born and raised in New Orleans, he’s spent most of his life in the middle of that city’s musical heartbeat, building a reputation as a drummer who hits hard but still keeps the music dancing.

Peebles has been a long-time member of Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, joining the band in his teens and becoming a key part of the group’s sound as it grew into an international touring force. His blend of rock power, funk drive, and jazz/Latin influence helped shape the backbone of Trombone Shorty’s modern mix — and he’s been heard and seen on major stages, TV performances, and touring cycles for years.

What he’s doing now: Alongside his continuing work in the Trombone Shorty world, Peebles has also pushed his own solo/project identity, stepping forward as a frontman in his own music while still staying active in drum education and performance content.

Recordings / credits: His recording credits include Trombone Shorty releases such as Backatown (2010) and Say That to Say This (2013), along with other sessions and appearances tied to the New Orleans funk/rock universe.
